First Few Days of London

Wednesday, May 12th - I woke up around 2pm, which would only be about 9am Canada time. Sandra and I then had a great traditional English meal at Marquis Cornwallis - a fabulous pub that I practically became a regular at during my stay in London. We didn't have much of a plan that day but decided to head to explore the area around our hotel. We visited Russel Square and did some shopping. After grabbing a quick dinner we went to London pub for the night. London pub isn't the greatest, but it was attached to the Royal National which made it quite convenient. First night out in London ended up being a pretty great night!

Thursday, May 13th - Woke up late again - around noon and was pretty hungover from the night before. Definitely not the best way to kick off my birthday! After grabbing lunch at some Italian bistro we headed to Covent Garden to explore. First thing I noticed was all the brightly painted elephants. I later learned that that this was part of a 'save the elephants" campaign and that each elephant would later be auctioned off for charity later this year. There were also a lot of street performers and of course tourist traps. Sandra and I then walked along the Thames to the London Eye. The London eye is a huge Ferris wheel that gives a great view of London in all directions. Afterward we visited some English gardens and caught the tube back to the RN. Sandra and I again grabbed dinner at Marquis Cornwallis pub and ended up celebrating my birthday there, turned out to be another fun night. London was actually starting to live up to my expectations!
