London - Day 4!

Saturday, May 15th - Sandra and I signed up for the Stonehenge coach tour which meant for a very early morning, we were being picked up at 6:30am at our hotel. Our first stop that morning was Windsor Castle - home of the Royal Family. According to the flag flying over the castle the Queen was actually home at the time. We toured around a portion of the castle and then we were lucky enough to be able to catch the Changing of the Guard. I found this much more impressive than the castle itself. Our next stop on the tour was Stonehenge and as far as all the sights I saw in Europe this is definitely one of my favourites. There is something about seeing something that has been there for 5000 years that just gets to me.

After spending sometime at Stonehenge we stopped for lunch in Lacock. Lacock was a step back in time - we had lunch at the George Inn which dates back to 1361! I should mentioned that parts of Harry Potter were filmed at this pub but not being a HP fan I didn't pay much attention. I had a delicious meal at the George Inn of fish and chips, definitely the best I had in the UK. After lunch Sandra and I wandered around Lacock for a bit and then it was off to Bath. Bath is a resort town that had quite a lot of history with it - it was the sight of the Roman Bath's in 60-70 AD. In the 1800's it became a resort town which it has remained ever since. Sandra and I did a quick tour of the town and then headed to the common grass area (it was huge, right in the middle of the town) and grabbed some gelato.

It was finally time to head back to London, we had about a 2 hour drive ahead of us. I tried to catch a bit of sleep on the bus, but it was impossible. Just as we were arriving back in London our coach broke down. Sandra and I decided to catch the tube to our hotel because as we were supposed to meet Brad for dinner. We got back slightly late and met Brad and Sarah (another tour member) and grabbed dinner at Marquis (again!). After dinner we were looking for something low key to do so we thought it would be fun to actually explore Russell Square. We found out that London actually closes the park at night so we had to find something else to do. After wandering for a while, Brad, Sarah, Sandra and I decided to just grab some wine and hang out in the hotel. Wasn't the night we had planned but still a solid night with a lot of laughs.
